Campfire hacks

If you have ever burned a marshmallow or accidentally exploded something well here are some tips for getting the most of your campfires.

1. Bannock

Bannock is a delicious pastry treat made from flower and some other ingredients but doesn’t always turn out. The hack my fAmity started to use a few years ago is we take the pilsbury dough croissant dough and wrap the dough around the stick you use to cook bannock the cook it on the fire . For the toppings my personal favourite is to drizzle brown sugar and cinnamon on top or spread jam on the divet that the stick was stuck through. Trust me you bannock purests it’s delicious.

2. Roasting Marshmallows

I don’t know about you but personally I enjoy my marshmallows golden brown not burnt to a crisp or pretty much raw so the trick is that I use of the marshmallow roasting sticks that you can auto rotate, Then I hold the marshmallow over top of the tip of the fire. For best results serve with chocolate and graham crackers.

3. Making hotdogs

The trick to making a hotdog on the campfire in my opinion is to just stick it right in the flames then rotate as needed. The actual hotdog though can make a difference on the quality of your meal. I personally prefer smokies because they are more delicious then a regular hotdog and are more filling. If you choose took more of a sausage rather then a hotdog be careful at how close you put it on the fire because it might explode.

4. Grilled cheese.

This is super cool but kind of difficult to get right. It is possible to make a grilled cheese sandwich on the campfire if you purchase a special cooker thing as seen in the photo above. But to be honest it looks cooler than it works. It’s kind of hard to get the right temperature and you have to constantly check on the sandwich to make sure it isn’t burning.

5. The fire

If your camping trip has ever been ruined by a fire ban try investing in a portable gasoline fire pit. Not only does it allow you to leagally have a fire during a fire ban there are many other benefits like your clothing doesn’t smell like campfire for weeks after. Also you don’t have to worry about inhaling to much of the campfire smoke.
